Çanakkale | 2022

Çanakkale is northwestern city in Turkey. It was stragetically important city in the history and was known by Gelibolu Çanakkale wars occured in 1915 as a modern and independent Turkey’s initial steps under extremely poor circumstances regarding economy and poverty. According to current sources around 253,000 turkish soldiers were martyred while around same number of soldier from allied states died in this war.

Turkiye defended its land and not allowed allied states to pass Çanakkale Bridge at this war which lasted 1 year. Allied powers against Türkiye consisted of British, French, New Zealand and Australian soldiers.

Mustafa Kemal Atatürk gave the speech after Çanakkale war ended, “thoose heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives. You are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and Mehmets to us where they lie side by side here in this country of ours. You, the mothers, who sent their sons from faraway countries, wipe away your tears; your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace. After having lost their lives on this land they have became our sons as well.”
