Academic Projects
04.2016 – 08.2016 | Continuous Improvement in Business Services
Type of the project: MBA&E Master Course Term Project as a team
Scope of the project: Adopting lean practices in service industry. Created a new business model brings customer satisfaction, process efficiency and standardized functions
Abstract of the project
This paper explores the idea of how a BPO or an ITO can enhance their service efficiency and have a significant improvement in their customer satisfaction by simply adopting lean practices. Lean practices were developed for manufacturing industry and has been bearing fruits for decades. But, no one has ever thought of implementing it in the service industry as there are no tangible products, no lines, no machine, no material flow and hence no value stream mapping. The main focus of this paper is to explore all the possible transformation of lean methodologies to service industry and more. In the end, we have created a model which service industry can apply to their operations and can go lean. Value addition of this model will be the process excellence which constitutes of shareholders, project team and whole organization together. Strategy of building ownership among stakeholders will improve in Lean implementation which results in better productivity and success.
Key Words: BPO, ITO, lean practices, continuous improvement, management practices, business services, service process efficiency, customer satisfaction.

2012 Season | Supply Chain Aggregate Planning
Type of the project: Bachelor of Science in Industrial Systems Engineering Course Term Project as individual
Scope of the project: Aimed at minimizing the cost of the company by implementing aggregate planning. (Cooperated with Company ESHOT Public Transportation Firm in İzmir, Turkey). Minimized the maintenance cost of the company by implementing aggregate planning method. Created a decision making model and provided %25 profit for each year in cost of material supplier for the repair and maintenance.
Abstract of the project
This project will be prepared by considering a firm’s purchasing case. This firm is “ESHOT” which is serving in the public transportation industry in İzmir, Turkey. There is a challenge to give an accuracte decision about future maintanence strategy of the company for the public transportation buses. Either to purchase the final products directly from external supplier or purchasing the materials only as semi-product from external suppliers and forming them into final product by using the ESHOT’s own resources and capacities should be choosen as a proper strategy. CNC-equipment is neccessary to process the semi-products. Therefore Eshot has to purchase also a new CNC-equipment in order to forming semi-products into final product. Aggregate planning solution method will be applied to solve the problem and show producing final product internally is more gainful regarding total cost in the long term.

I can not share complete article report as it includes confidential data about company. Therefore I share mathematical model I created in the scope of aggregate planning to show long term benefit of second decision. I may also share computational GAMS code I written to solve mathematical model, if you send me private E-mail.
